The 734 area code has been a hotbed for hip-hop in Michigan for years now. So it’s no surprise that Ypsilanti’s latest offering, Matt G, comes correct with the rhymes on his new album, Dead Duck. Matt G explains, “Dead Duck is about growing to be the man I am today, its starts out dark and ends on a happy note. For years I battled with the bottle and now sober for two years, it’s my growth as a man and as an emcee.” Making music for everyday people who are struggling so they can relate and take something positive from it is important to Matt G. Through his lyrics and the production of his music, which includes the team of Solpercusion, Rolly Forbez, Selfsays and DJ Mselect, Matt G is working to keep things on the positive tip and wants Dead Duck to relay a positive message to others’ lives.

As for now, Matt G is busy booking shows and working on a new group, Proof Positive, with fellow Ypsi emcee Y.P. Louis. “My goal with music is to give something positive for cats that go through the same thing to feel good,” Matt G says. For more info visit myspace.com/mattgarner777. | RDW
