Chief x Broken x CD Release Party Feb. 20th @ the Token Lounge

chief I wanted to sit and type up a real catchy article in hopes that I could draw in the readers and make them want to attend this event. Unfortunately, my brain is fried and the only thing I can really say is “if you are not in attendance, you’re missing out on something special… simple as that!”

For anybody who is unfamiliar with Chief, I believe he is the epitome of a starving artist… and to say he is my favorite local artist wouldn’t sound right because I place him up there with all of my favorites worldwide.

Since breaking out of the basement, and emerging onto the local scene in 2005 with the release of “Rehab”, he has put out a slew of local favorites such as “Relapse”, “R&R”, the “Cold Turkey EP”, “Flippin’ Words Vol. 1 & 2″ and the Past Due record with Phathom, “Career”… all of which are classic in there own right, and consistently showed the growth of an artist who takes his craft serious.

Chief isn’t a punchline rapper, though he certainly has them… and he has never tried to portray an image that is not him.

While remaining humble, he has built a loyal, local fan base who has supported him unconditionally and with the release of Broken, it seems as if that base is going to expand even further.

He has consistently packed venues such as the Token Lounge and Bullfrog, drawing crowds that I rarely see in the local Detroit hip hop scene. At a Chief show, you can look around and actually see more fans than artist… and at the same time, the vibe is more of a party than a concert. All in all, a lot of memories are created and good times are had.

In summary, February 20th it is going down at the Token Lounge in Westland, MI. I have no doubt that this will be a night you will remember for the rest of your life… or at least most of it! Haha.

Come through, get your copy of “Broken”, a lot of time; blood, sweat and tears; lots of travelling; lots of scrapped songs to ensure only the best material makes it on the record; and a lot of ups and downs… all for YOU.
